SuperBook.com Is Offering Up PAC 10 Showdown!
Friday, November 17th 2006 (Bob Acton)
College football players are delirious this weekend as massive rivalries dot the slate with Michigan-Ohio State, Auburn-Alabama and of course the West Coast battle of California against USC.
With all due apologies to the folks at UCLA, Golden Bears of Berkley have supplanted the Bruins as the only serious contender to the Troy throne. Since Jeff Tedford was placed in the position of top dog, Cal has been a handful for Pete Carroll’s boys.
When Americans sit down at their computer and hit their favorites tab to open up their online wagering account, the majority are typing in the letters www.SuperBook.com, as that is where they are guaranteed to premier service.
As always the staff at SuperBook has been burning the midnight oil, to make sure that they can handle the cornucopia of customers who will be in a betting frenzy this weekend. As for the PAC 10 tilt between the Trojans and Golden Bears, the line opened with USC -7, but the visitors have been getting the support from the early bettors and the number is now USC -5.5.
Many handicappers will point to perception, as playing a huge role in the betting habits of most sports bettors, yet this line movement does not make sense. USC is getting healthy at wide receiver, with Jarrett and Smith and is coming off an easy win over what was considered a talented Oregon Ducks team. California meanwhile, bounced back nicely from their thrashing at Tennessee to open the season and had reeled off 8 straight wins, prior to last weekend’s trip to Tucson, Arizona. When the dust finally settled in the desert, the Wildcats coached by Mike Stoops had shocked the Bears 24-20.
Now Cal has their backs to the wall and must beat the favored Trojans and then handle Stanford to claim the outright Pac 10 crown and a huge BCS Bowl payday. USC at home looks like a cinch play right? Wrong and they stay statistics don’t lie!
Since 1996 the Bears and Trojans have met 5 times at the venerable Coliseum and in all 5 games have been underdogs. They have covered the point spread in every meeting and they have won 3 of the 5 outings.
Incidentally if this game is too tight for you to call, the over/under at SuperBook, is presently being offered at 54 ½ and the average total point in 5 meetings have averaged just a shade fewer than 49.
