Georgia Tech Could Suffer From Hangover!
Wednesday, November 29th 2006 (Bob Acton)
November 29, 2006 (Jacksonville, FL) – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets performed as expected last week in their rivalry game against Georgia, as for the sixth straight year they were sitting in the losing dressing room after the gun had sounded to end the game. What coach Chan Gailey is hoping for however, is that the bad taste in his players mouths, does not linger to long, or they will get taken apart this weekend in the ACC Championship game against Wake Forest in Jacksonville.
SuperBook.com is offering this game to the betting public and the line presently sits at Georgia Tech -2 ½ which may surprise handicappers as Wake Forest is ranked 16th while the Yellow Jackets are 22nd. Another little nugget for gamblers who like the dog here is that Wake is 6-0 on the road this season and 7-4 against the number in 2006. If you’re looking at how they did against common opponents, Wake doused Maryland on the road 38-24, while GT struggled at home squeaking by Maryland 27-23. On the flip side however, GT went to Virginia Tech and stunned the Hokies 38-27, while the Demon Deacons got destroyed at home by Tech 27-6.
An interesting statistic is in the quarterback department where Georgia Tech’s signal caller Reggie Ball has passed for 1691 yards but has a below average completion percentage at 45.8%. For Wake Riley Skinner has thrown for 1579 yards, but he has an exceptional completion rate of 67.3 %. Ball has thrown 20 touchdown passes, but has been intercepted 12 times, while Skinner only has 8 td passes, but only 4 picks.
The Yellow Jackets (9-3) go into Saturday's Atlantic Coast Conference championship game in Jacksonville against Wake Forest (10-2) ranked third in the ACC in rushing defense (88.8 yards a game). The Deacons are the surprise team of the ACC with a running game that averages 158.1 yards. Tech has allowed no more than 100 yards rushing nine times and one offensive touchdown or fewer in seven games.
Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford said the Jackets send an extra man 95% of the time and the chore is to make Tech show blitz before the snap. He said it can be done with a hard count but it took two weeks of work before the Bulldogs' 15-12 win last week.
Wake Forest didn't even know it would be in the title game until it defeated Maryland on Saturday. "We had a week off, so we had two weeks to get ready. And we needed it because they throw so much at you," said Stafford, whose team had one offensive TD.
www.SuperBook.com has the over/under at 41 and I don’t see many points being put up here!
