The online game can be a very interesting realm from time to time. Sometimes you just see some pretty crazy things. Regardless of whether your on the good or bad side of the madness, it will undoubtedly leave you with your mouth wide open in pure shock. Every once in a while you may even think you’re a mortal lock to win a given hand only to find out that you’re sorely mistaken. Just when you think you’re way ahead, you find out just how far behind you truly are.
Because the hands come at a much faster pace it seems like these oddball hands of note occur more often. Well this is and isn’t all true. See, since the game happens at a much faster pace there are more hands dealt per hour than at a regular casino or brick and mortar cardroom. So they do happen in shorter intervals probably but in terms of number of hands probably not.
Ok, enough with he probability lesson, here comes this week’s hand of the week. I was playing at an online $2-$4 no limit hold em game. As is usually the case online, it was like the wild, wild west out there. The virtual chips were flying all around the table as it seemed like everyone was having premium hands. Then the following hand came up. I was on the button and looked down at Pocket 4’s. Not bad given my late position. The Under the Gun player made it $12 to go. It was folded to me and I decided to call. Hopefully I flop a set and take all of his money. We both had over $400 each.
The flop came and it was the As-Ah-4d. What a flop. Not only did I flop a set, I flopped a full house! I was hoping that my opponent had AK because he’d be in a lot of trouble right now. He checked and I bet $15. He raised me to $30 and I just called. The turn was the 9s. Again my opponent checked. I was almost 100% certain that he was sitting on AK at this point. This time, I bet $30 and he raised me to $60. I was pretty confused now so I decided to simply call here. The river was the ultimate scare card for me. It was the Ks. I put him on AK and if I was right, he has a full house. Again for the 3rd time, he checked. Now he had check raised me twice when I thought I was ahead and here he was again checking. This time, for the first time this hand, I think I’m beat so I quickly check behind him. The cards flip over and I was completely wrong. He didn’t have AK. He had pocket Aces and flopped Quads. I couldn’t believe it. I thought I was way ahead but in reality I was drawing dead after the flop.
How’s that for an incredible hand? Thank goodness my read was sort of right on the river…
Until next time, may the chips fall your way.
