The fun, random stat of the day is that this isn’t the first time these two schools have faced each other in the semifinals of the NIT. They also squared off in 1958.
Sixty-four years later, the Bonnies are looking to avenge that loss. Surely, it’s been sticking in everyone’s craw since the Eisenhower administration.
To get to this point, St. Bonaventure has played good basketball. In the NIT, the Bonnies have won road games at Colorado, at Oklahoma and at Virginia. That’s quite the gauntlet.
Xavier has taken the exact opposite path. The Musketeers have won at home against Cleveland State, Florida and Vanderbilt.
With tonight’s game on a neutral court, the battle-tested team is the way to go. The Bonnies will get the better of the Muskateers in the NIT semifinals.
