Popular Boxing Betting Lines and Odds

The number of betting lines available on a boxing match often depends on who is fighting. There are always more markets available for the biggest fights. However, there is always a range of markets on offer regardless of the fight, and each gives you another chance to win. Below we explain all of the most common types of markets so that you can incorporate them into your betting strategy with ease.

Moneyline Bets

A moneyline bet is the best place to start. It is simply a bet on which of the two fighters will win the bout, and it is sometimes referred to as a straight up bet. When you look at the odds in the market, the favorite to win is denoted with a minus sign and the underdog is shown with a plus sign. An example betting market may be:

Deontay Wilder +230      Tyson Fury -270

Therefore, in the above fight, Fury is the favorite to win. The number after the minus sign shows you how much you need to bet to win $100. Wilder is the underdog in this fight and the number after the plus sign shows how much you could potentially win if you were to bet $100.

This means that if you were to bet $100 on Fury and he won, then you would win $37.04 and you would receive your $100 bet back. If you were to bet $100 on Wilder and he won, then you would win $230 and receive your $100 back. As can be seen, the potential winnings for backing the underdog are far greater, but the chance of them winning is considered far smaller. However, in situations where you think an upset might happen, it can be a great opportunity to land a big win.

Over/Under Rounds

You can use this market to bet on how many rounds you think there will be in a bout. The market will present a number and you bet more (over) or less (under). For example, the market might be:

Over 7.5 (-125) Under 7.5 (+105)

The odds show that the fight is expected to be 7 rounds or less and if you were to bet $100 on it and it was correct, then you could win $80. However, if you think the fight will last 8 rounds or more, then betting $100 on that side of the market would win you $105.

Winning Method

As the name suggest, this market allows you to bet on the method by which you believe a fight will be won. It may look something like this:

Tyson Fury by KO, TKO or DQ +100

                Tyson Fury by Decision +280

                Draw +2200

Deontay Wilder by KO, TKO or DQ +310

Deontay Wilder by Decision + 1800

All you need to do is select the one that you think will prove to be correct. There may be some small variations in the way the market is divided, but in general, the principle will always remain the same.

Will the Fight Go the Distance

This market is entirely self-explanatory and it is presented as a Yes or No choice. Bet Yes if you think it will or No if you think it will not. You can use this together with the Total Rounds market if you are feeling particularly confident in your prediction.

Winner and Exact Rounds

In this market, you pick which fighter will win the bout and what round they will do it in. Obviously, this is far harder to predict than the straightforward fight winner, which means that the odds are usually extremely generous.

Winner and Round Range

This is similar to the previous market, but it offers a little more leeway. You need to pick a winner and then a range of rounds, for example, Tyson Fury & 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12. Simply select from the round groupings.

Parlays

Normally, several boxing matches will take place in one evening and you may well want to bet on a number of them. You can place individual moneyline bets on each fight, trying to predict the winner. However, this is quite expensive. You can use a parlay bet to decrease the cost and increase your potential winnings. However, it also increases the risk.

A parlay bet allows you to combine multiple bets into one. To win a parlay, you have to win all of the individual bets. For example, you may have the following two fights and moneyline markets:

  • Deontay Wilder +230      Tyson Fury -270
  • Robert Helenius +185     Adam Kownacki -215

If you want to back Fury and Kownacki to win, then you could do it with two separate bets. If you were to place $100 on each and both were to win, then you would collect $83.55 in winnings (and receive your $200 back). However, if you combined them into a parlay and placed one bet of $100, then your potential winnings would be $100.78.

The more bets you combine, the larger your odds become but the harder the bet is to win. However, parlays can be a lot of fun and they are worth having in your betting arsenal.

Round Robins

Round robins are another way of combining multiple bets. You need to combine a minimum of three bets and it is slightly more complicated than parlays, but they are less risky.

If we take the example from above and add another fight to it:

  • Deontay Wilder +230      Tyson Fury -270
  • Robert Helenius +185     Adam Kownacki -215
  • Mitchell Jamie +300        Shannon Courtenay -360

If you were to back Fury, Kownacki and Courtenay to win with three $100 bets, then your potential winnings become $111.33. If you were to place a parlay consisting of all three bets, your potential winnings become $156.55. However, a round robin offers odds that are even more generous and if all three predictions were correct, then you could win $263.09 from a $100 bet.

A round robin bet is actually a way of making multiple parlay bets at once. It consists of a number of small parlays that includes all possible combinations of events. Using the above example, you would be betting on Fury/Kownacki, Fury/Courtenay, and Kownacki/Courtenay. This means that as long as at least two of your predictions are correct, then you will win a payout.

Boxing Weight Classes

The day before a fight, the boxers have their official weigh in. This can be quite entertaining, as they tend to use it as an opportunity to try to intimidate each other. However, it is also very important, as it is necessary to ensure that a boxer’s weight falls within the boundaries of the weight class they are fighting in. There are several weight classes and they can also be split into two categories.

Glamour Divisions

These are the original eight weight divisions, also known as the traditional, classic or glamour divisions. They are the most prominent and widely recognized. From lightest to heaviest, they are as follows:

  • Flyweight – 108-112 lbs
  • Bantamweight – 115-118 lbs
  • Featherweight – 122-126 lbs
  • Lightweight – 130-135 lbs
  • Welterweight – 140-147 lbs
  • Middleweight – 154-160 lbs
  • Light Heavyweight – 168-175 lbs
  • Heavyweight 200+ lbs

Tweener Divisions

These are much newer weight divisions and it took many years until they were fully recognized as legitimate divisions. From lightest to heaviest, they are as follows:

  • Strawweight – 105 lbs
  • Light Flyweight – 105-108 lbs
  • Super Flyweight – 112-115 lbs
  • Super Bantamweight – 118-122 lbs
  • Super Featherweight – 126-130 lbs
  • Light Welterweight – 135-140 lbs
  • Light Middleweight – 147-154 lbs
  • Super Middleweight – 160-168 lbs
  • Cruiserweight – 175-200 lbs
  • Bridgerweight – 200-224 lbs

Boxing Title Belts

If you are new to boxing, it wouldn’t be surprising if you find the entire issue of title belts confusing. There are loads of them and understanding which is which can seem complicated. The reason there are so many is that boxing does not have a single governing body that decides upon the rules and looks after the sport. Rather, there are four governing bodies, the IBF, WBA, WBO and WBC, and each has its own belts. Furthermore, each has a belt for each of the weight classes, so each division can potentially have four different world champions. To make matters more confusing, there are also IBO and WBU belts, which are considered fringe titles.

The belts are awarded by, in order of incorporation:

  • The World Boxing Association (WBA)
  • The World Boxing Council (WBC)
  • The International Boxing Federation (IBF)
  • The World Boxing Organization (WBO)

A boxer will try to win all four belts in order to unify their weight divisions. However, a boxer is considered a unified champion if they hold at least two of the four belts. If a fighter manages to hold all four major belts, then they are referred to as an undisputed champion.

  • Last four digits of your Social Security Number

Legally we are required to collect all of this information about you, as we are required to verify your identity before you are able to place a bet. Normally, the last four digits of your social security number together with the other information is enough to do this. However, occasionally we may also ask you for further documentation such as your drivers license.

The good news is that you can open a SuperBook Sports account no matter where you are located. However, you will only be able to place bets with us when you are within the borders of one of the states where we are licensed to operate. This means that we also need to be able to verify your location and we do this using a piece of software called GeoComply. It is available for desktop computers and mobile devices and it takes no time at all to setup.

After creating your account, the next stage is to deposit funds to place bets with. There are a number of payment methods available, all of which are safe and secure, so you are sure to find one that you are happy to use.

You can then start placing bets. The first step is to select ‘Boxing’ from the menu on the left side of the website, which will load a list of upcoming bouts.

Next to each bout, there are shortcuts to place the two most popular forms of bet, moneyline and over/under rounds. You can click directly on them and they will be added straight to your bet slip on the right. Alternatively, you can click on ‘More Bets’ to explore the other markets that may be offered for a specific fight.

Simply find the market that you wish to use and then click on the relevant field to add it to the bet slip. As you add more bets to the slip, you will also be given the option to build parlay bets or round robins. Enter how much you wish to wager on the bet slip, confirm your bets, and then wait to see if you have won.
