Is DeVito mania here to stay?

It’s not like this is unfamiliar territory. Other unsung heroes have taken the sports scene by storm.

Locally, Jeremy Lin was a recent example. He became a sensation, leading to “Lin-sanity,” during his rise to fame with the Knicks.

And in the NFL, there have been a lot of examples. The Broncos riding “Tebow Mania” to the playoffs in 2011 is a prime example.

Both of those runs were short-lived, however. Lin played a total of 35 games in New York, before departing for the first of six more NBA stops. Tebow started another NFL game after that magical season, getting run out of Denver once the Broncos signed free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning.

Tommy DeVito is the latest sensation to become a supernova. Seemingly overnight, the undrafted QB has become a star in New York. He’s 3-2 since taking over as the Giants starter, replacing much-maligned Daniel Jones. Along the way, he’s thrown for eight touchdowns to just three interceptions, and won the hearts of fans throughout the Big Apple.

Can the run continue? Is the success sustainable?

History suggests that it isn’t. But for now, the entire thing sure is a ton of fun to watch.

Steve Quinne’s Pick: New York +11.5 vs. Philadelphia (-110)

The Eagles are a Super Bowl contender. The Giants aren’t. But that doesn’t mean this Christmas Day matchup is going to be a blowout. Philadelphia hasn’t played well of late. The Eagles got blown out by the 49ers and Cowboys, before losing a close game in Seattle on Monday night. Meanwhile, New York has won three out its last four. Can the Giants keep it close in a Monday matinee? It won’t take a Christmas miracle for Tommy DeVito to make it a game.
